An elegant over-size antique Sultanabad with an intriguing design that provides a plethora of points of interest. Its densely-drawn repeated all-over floral pattern consists of an iris encircled by a delicate wreath of softly contoured leaves resting above a nest of dramatically rendered large fronds flowing outwards horizontally on top of another equally dramatic pair of frond twisting back on itself. The pattern is complemented by a gorgeous bouquet of roses rendered in delicate detail adding to the splendor of this lavish floral arrangement. The placement of this pattern in repetition along three vertical axes across the field create a wonderful flow of multitudes in the entire design and remains every bit interesting at each glance. The inner and outer guard strips as well as the beautifully detailed main border are filled with smaller, slightly more rigid geometric and floral motifs in deliberate contrast to the interior.
This meticulously and deftly designed magnificent rug has an overall formal appeal to it. The exuberance of stylized floral arrangements speak of opulent, stately settings. The mostly dark and restrained color palette is also very classic and traditional with its light blue, gold, ivory and red against a navy background, which makes this rug a perfect match for elegant and formal interiors.
