Antique Oushak Carpet
Product inquiry form
A gorgeous over-size antique Oushak carpet with a delightfully distinct individual character. It is playful and quirky, bold and subtle, cosmopolitan and tribal at the same time. It boasts a large scale design that at first seems to feature a mihrab niche pattern with a rich red and saffron-colored medallion at the centre flanked by two beige columns on either side. The same design, when zoomed out, can be seen to spread into a grand lotus shape, whose glowing gold interior is left largely unadorned, except for a few free floating traditional rosette and leaf motifs. The space outside the lotus echoes the architectural features of the mihrab columns with its arch-like outlines and notable oval frames in red that decidedly look like architectural plaques featuring an arrangement of interconnecting angular, curvilinear lines reminiscent of calligraphy. The rather large main border has a beautifully abrashed red background filled with classical large floral patterns rendered in more rigid and less curvilinear outlines.
This fascinating rug seems more intent on creating the sense of a space through an abstract, geometric and playful sensibility and thus the way it combines all elements of its design to this end becomes its focal point. Its saturated, soft, and warm palette of colors enhances the depth of this space and gives this gorgeous rug a distinct patina. A highly collectible work of artistry with a quirky cosmopolitan feel, this unique Oushak is timeless and will be at home with contemporary, classical or eclectic interiors alike.
