Description

A splendid over-size antique Aubusson carpet woven in the 19th century in Aubusson, France, which had been a center of weaving since the 16th century known for its exquisite tapestries. Everything about this impeccable carpet speaks of a delicate splendor conceived in the form of dreamy, romantic florals and refreshing abundant leaves all in sweeping curves. This is a rendition of nature indoors with its softest, most beautiful and calming features standing in perfect harmony with architectural elements. Bouquets of romantic cabbage roses in very light and delicate tone-on-tone pink adorn the carpet all over against a golden background and slightly more saturated golden scrolls of laurel leaves. And a separate constellation of rose bouquets at the centre float around a space created by a carefully arranged garland of lush leaves and blossoms in delicate shades of gold and dark amber. The same color combination is used in the outermost border of the carpet to depict a molding-like dimensional pattern that finishes off the dreamy, ethereal look of the carpet with a more intense architectural definition.

The restrained, extremely soft, tone-on-tone coloration used in the carpet is an example of painterly mastery of weaving at work. The details are brought into focus through the slightest changes in color while the overall feeling of calm and warmth is never compromised. This expansive, beautiful rug can bring an immediately recognizable sense of quiet yet never understated elegance to any room. Its softly aged look and gentle energy is full of antique charm that can be easily adapted to classical and shabby chic interiors.
