Tapestries have long been known as one of the most elegant and beautiful ways to decorate any interior. The history of tapestries stretches all the way back to ancient Egypt, who buried their dead in tapestries. In ancient Greece, city buildings and religious structures had walls covered in these beautiful works of art.

Tapestries found mass appeal in the 13th-century European church. Church officials used tapestries to illustrate bible verses to illiterate congregations. During the reign of French king Louis XIV, Les Gobelins opened and employed over 800 artists to design tapestries for French palaces.

The French Revolution saw a widespread decline in tapestry production until an Englishman named William Morris helped revive the lost art in the 1800s. Now, collectors seek out antique tapestries for their value and beauty.
