Killim and flatweave style rugs originated in Eastern Europe between Ukraine and Moldova. These rugs were often featured in Russian royal palaces and demonstrate the desire of the early Russian empire to strike a balance between the opulence of the royal family and the practicality of the poor class.

This style made its way across Europe, where they were stitched by nuns and noblewomen in France, England, Italy, and Russia. These groups of females would stitch them in panels and then combine them to create stunning designs. They often use floral patterns, but sometimes contain pastoral and landscape designs.

These rugs are of high value to collectors for their beauty and ability to compliment any style. Serious collectors always have at least one of these rugs in their collection.
