Persian rug weavers brought their craft to India in the 16th Century. There are two main subsets of Indian antique rugs. The first is the Northern India style, heavily influenced by Persians and run by industries built by families. The second is the Agra style, which was rugs produced in Indian prisons.

Northern Indian rugs consist of knotted piles of soft pashmina wool and are some of the most sought after rugs in the world. They combine Indian and Persian styles and incorporate subtle colors to appeal to the European markets.

The Agra style uses deep rich colors for their finely woven rugs. Both styles of antique rugs show the confluence of different styles in the region and serve a multitude of functions. No collection is complete without an Indian rug. For pricing or more information on one of the valuable antique rugs in our collection, fill out the short form on the rug’s individual page today.
